$95.00
On 18 March, Christie’s Prints & Multiples department presents a sale of over 200 lots spanning the 19th century to the present day. Andy Warhol’s Cowboys & Indians portfolio leads the auction and forms the centrepiece of a section dedicated to the artist, timed alongside the opening of the major Warhol retrospective at Tate Modern. Further highlights in the section include several unique colour-variants: Apple, from: Ads, Madonna & Self-Portrait with Skeleton’s Arm (after Munch), $ (1), and $ (Quadrant). Quintessential screenprints of Marilyn Monroe and Queen Elizabeth (Royal Edition), from: Reigning Queens, in neon pink with diamond dust are further focal points of the auction.
A section of portraits by David Hockney includes images of his celebrated muses Celia Birtwell, Peter Schlesinger and Henry Geldzahler coinciding with the National Portrait Gallery’s exhibition David Hockney: Drawing from Life. The Hockney section also includes examples of his recent iPad works as well as lithographs from his celebrated series of swimming pools from 1980.
Highlights of the Modern section include El Lissitzky’s Neuer, C.R.W. Nevinson’s Troops Resting, as well as several linocuts, etchings and lithographs by Pablo Picasso.
Masterpieces of Contemporary printmaking will also be offered, including Ed Ruscha’s Mocha Standard, Cy Twombly’s Roman Notes, colour trial proofs from Frank Stella’s series The Waves, and sought-after editions by contemporary greats such as Bridget Riley, Jonas Wood, STIK and Banksy.
